Keynote Speaker

Prof Jane Kerubo
Professor of Education, Kirinyaga University, Kenya

Prof. Jane Kerubo is an accomplished academic, scholar, researcher, and consultant with expertise in gender equality and equity in education, educational administration, leadership ethics, and integrity. She has published more than 15 peer‑reviewed journal articles, five books, four book chapters, and 12 conference proceedings and opinion pieces. Currently, she serves as Professor of Education at Kirinyaga University, Kerugoya, Kenya.

Prof. Kerubo has eight years of senior management experience in international relations and anti‑corruption initiatives within the Kenyan government. She was Kenya’s Deputy Head of Mission at the High Commission in Ottawa, Canada (July 2015 – June 2019), a Commissioner with the Ethics and Anti‑Corruption Commission (May 2012 – March 2015), and Assistant Director for Prevention, Public Education, Research, and Policy at the Kenya Anti‑Corruption Commission (July 2010 – September 2011).

Prior to her government service, she was an Associate Professor of Education at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Nairobi, for over 15 years, where she held leadership roles including Deputy Director of Research (three years), Head of Undergraduate Studies in Education (two years), and Deputy Head of Education (five years).

She holds a PhD in Higher and Further Education from University College London; a Master of Arts in Women and Higher Education Management from the Institute of Education, University of London; a Master of Education in Communication and Technology; and a Bachelor of Education (Arts), both from Kenyatta University, Nairobi.

Milica Sevkusik, EIFL, Lithuania

Topic: Digital Tools for Research Visibility

Bio: Milica Ševkušić is a Project Coordinator at EIFL and a librarian at the Institute of Technical Sciences of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (Belgrade, Serbia).

As a member of the repository development team at the University of Belgrade Computer Centre she has been involved in the development of a network of institutional repositories in Serbia. She is also a founding member of the Open Science Community Serbia and the Serbian Reproducibility Network.

Her professional interests focus on Open Science, library services aimed at supporting research activities, training in academic services and tools, support to Open Access journals, information literacy and research ethics.

Mary Ryan, International Research Development Manager, University of Glasgow

Topic: Funding and Global Partnerships: 

Bio: Mary Ryan is the International Research Development Manager in the Strategic Research Initiatives team of the Research Services Directorate at the University of Glasgow. In her role, Mary builds interdisciplinary connectivity between research teams across the university, supports the development of strategic partnerships and funding applications, represents the university in national fora on international development research, and contributes to institutional change to improve capacity for equitable partnership. Mary holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Sociology and a Master of Science in Cognitive and Behavioural Ecology. She has 20 years’ experience in project management and 10 years’ experience managing international development research. In her free time, Mary runs (very slowly) and enjoys cooking, reading and travel.

Dr. Gladys M. Nyacheio, Multimedia University, Kenya

Topic: Gendered Challenges in Collaboration

Dr Gladys Nyachieo is a sociologist and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Technology at Multimedia University of Kenya. Her research focuses on transport governance, road safety, motorcycle mobility, public transport, walking, gender and urban mobility in African cities. She is the Principal Investigator of several research initiatives, including the VREF-funded Governing Urban Mobility: Making and Implementing Decisions in Transport in Sub-Saharan Africa programme. Dr Nyachieo has extensive experience working with researchers, policymakers, practitioners and transport institutions across Africa. She is currently undertaking a sabbatical as a Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana.
