Graduation Weekend Speakers
Daniel Bediako, PhD
Daniel Bediako, PhD, is an Associate Director of the Biblical Research Institute of the General Conference. He holds a PhD (Old Testament) from the Adventist International Institute of Advanced Studies and has held academic and administrative positions at Valley View University in Ghana including serving as its Vice-Chancellor from 2015 to 2021. He has authored a number of scholarly works and edited several volumes. He served as associate editor of the Andrews Bible Commentary, and he is currently the editor of the Seventh-day Adventist International Biblical-Theological Dictionary. Daniel is married to Gifty and they have two children, Hehra and Daniel. The family moved to Maryland in July 2022.
Paul Shongwe, PhD
Dr. Dingindawo Paulus Shongwe is an accomplished individual with a strong educational background and extensive work experience in various leadership roles. He holds a BA in Theology and MA in Theological Studies from Andrews University in Michigan, USA, and an MA in Biblical Studies from Rand Afrikaans University, specializing in New Testament Johannine Literature. He also completed his D. Litt.et Phil, Doctor of Literature and Philosophy, in Biblical Studies at Rand Afrikaans University, focusing on the New Testament as well.
Currently serving as the President of the Southern Africa Union Conference, Dr. Shongwe has ten years of corporate experience in the banking industry, working with institutions like Standard Bank South Africa, Peoples Bank, and Nedbank Group. With a career spanning over 30 years in pastoral, educational, and corporate sectors, Dr. Shongwe has established himself as a community builder, social entrepreneur, educator, and motivational speaker. His commitment to empowerment through education and mentorship programs is evident in his diverse professional experiences and impactful contributions to various organizations, communities, and the Church.
Hon. Ezekiel Machogu
Hon. Ezekiel Machogu was sworn in as Cabinet Secretary in charge of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kenya on October 27, 2022. He is a seasoned career civil servant and administrator. Before his current appointment, Hon. Machogu was the Member of Parliament for Nyaribari Masaba Constituency from 2017 to 2022. While serving in the 12th Parliament, he also served as the Chairperson of the National Assembly Committee on Members, Service and Facilities; and as a Member of the Committee on Regional Integration.
Hon. Machogu has served as: Senior Deputy Secretary in the Ministries of Arid and Semi-Arid Lands, Trade and Tourism, and the Public Service Commission from 2002 to 2016; Deputy Provincial Commissioner of the Coast Province from 2001 to 2002; District Commissioner for Wajir, Busia and Nyandarua Districts from 1989 to 2001; and as District Officer of Tetu, Nyandarua, Oljororok, Kianyaga, Nandi, Naivasha, and Kikuyu Divisions from 1978 to 1989.
Hon. Machogu is an alumnus of the University of Nairobi where he undertook his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science (Government and Sociology). He has also attended numerous senior management courses locally and around the world throughout his long-standing career in the civil service.
