Hon. David Maraga Awarded an Honorary Degree

The Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya was awarded the Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa, in the most recent graduation ceremony at the Adventist University of Africa. Hon. David Maraga was the chief guest at the graduation on Sunday, 16th June 2019.

The University Senate in making the award noted that the Chief Justice has made enormous contributions to humanity through his great passion for upholding the rule of law, his persistent commitment and integrity to social justice, political stability, and community service.

The Adventist University of Africa jubilantly celebrated its eighth graduation ceremony over the past weekend, Friday 14th to Sunday 16th June 2019. The occasion was marked with joy, laughter, commendations and testimonies of thanksgiving by the graduates and their families.

In his declamatory speech, the Chief Justice challenged that graduates saying, “Your influence should not only be through your sermons but even more through your deportment and lifestyle. . . . This world yearns for honest leaders whose words will be congruent with their actions; people who are true to their core values. In a nutshell, the world today is seeking women and men of towering integrity.”

In keeping with the theme, “Keep on Keeping On: Inspiring Hope and Faith, the Baccalaureate speaker, Dr Vincent Injety implored students to “lift up the name of Jesus, spend time alone with Him, follow Him and speak boldly for Him.” These, he said, were the four quintessential pillars to keep on inspiring hope and faith. Dr Injety is the President of Helderberg College of Higher Education in Somerset, South Africa with at least 30 years of experience in higher education.

Dr Samuel Misiani, the Consecration speaker, pointed the graduates to God and His attributes of love, faithfulness, constancy, goodness and ability. He urged to keep looking to Jesus who would empower them to keep on. Dr Misiani is the President of the West Kenya Union Conference (WKUC).

The graduates beamed with joy and gave tribute to the Almighty God, spouses, family members, student sponsors, fellow graduates, and the AUA administration, faculty and staff. A special tribute was given to Dr Josephine Ganu, the graduating class sponsor.

LLMDedicationThe Leadership Legacy Monument that was dedicated on 15th June 2019 

During this special weekend, the new AUA Leadership Legacy Monument depicting Elijah passing on the Mantle of Leadership to Elisha were dedicated. The Monument symbolizes the objective of education at AUA. The new Leadership Park was also dedicated. The Park shows how principles of leadership are interwoven with and can be derived from the animal kingdom.
