Best Academic Library in Kenya

The Adventist University of Africa Judith Thomas Library was ranked the best academic library in the Republic of Kenya in 2018. This award was given at the Library of the Year Awards (LOYA), also known as the Maktaba 2018 Awards, organized by the Kenya Library Association (KLA) in partnership with Worldreader, Book Aid International, Jomo Kenyatta Foundation and the Ministry of Sports and Heritage, Kenya. The annual event was celebrated on 12th October 2018 at Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) in Nairobi, Kenya.
The aim of LOYA is to recognize excellence in the provision of library and information services in the country. Interested libraries submit their profiles to KLA, clearly indicating the unique features that make them qualify for participation. The criteria for assessment was:
• Kenya Library Association (KLA) Membership Subscription
• Innovation and creativity in the provision of library services
• Application of modern ICT in service provision
• Provision of current information in various formats (diversity of collection)
• Provision of services directly relevant to the immediate community
• Initiatives to preserve and disseminate local content and indigenous knowledge,
• Unique services provided or projects undertaken by the library
The library staff and the University were elated at the news in recognition of their efforts and diligence towards having a world-class library.
The Judith Thomas Library was officially opened on 28th May 2012 by the then president, His Excellency, Hon. Mwai Kibaki and the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventist President, Dr Ted Wilson.
