Call for Applications for Faculty in Chaplaincy



The Theological Seminary of the Adventist University of Africa announces a faculty position in Chaplaincy. The successful applicant should be willing to take up the position by the first quarter of 2019.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  1. An earned doctoral degree in Applied Theology with a cognate in Chaplaincy or Christian Counseling.
  2. Minimum of four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) and Board Certification (BCC) from a recognized body.
  3. Competent to teach and direct graduate studies and research in Chaplaincy and Applied Theology.
  4. Able to work with students and faculty in a variety of cultures and ethnic backgrounds in an international setting.

Required Work Experience:

  1. Minimum of four years of experience in chaplaincy practice.
  2. A holder of ministerial credential of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Candidates not carrying a current endorsement from the division BMTE should apply immediately for endorsement.
  3. Loyal to the message and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church evidenced by membership and active involvement in a local church.
  4. A minimum of  (4) years full-time university teaching experience with two of those years preferably at the graduate level.
  5. Scholarly presentations and publications (at least four academic publications in the discipline).
  6. Evidence of supervision of project and dissertation.


  1. Teach courses in Chaplaincy and in Applied Theology as would be assigned.
  2. Advise Masters projects and DMin dissertations as would be assigned.
  3. Serve in project and dissertation committees of the Seminary as would be assigned.
  4. Collaborate with Adventist Chaplaincy Ministries, local healthcare, educational,  and other institutions for the delivery of the university chaplaincy programme.
  5. Engage in community service.
  6. Perform any other assigned responsibilities by the university.

Method of Application: All applications should be submitted to the Human Resources Office of the University with certified copies of academic qualifications, portfolio detailing academic qualifications, work experience, research and publications, and family data. In addition, three recommendations: two from university administrators and one from a church administrator should accompany the application.
