CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR A DEAN - SCHOOL OF POSTGRADUATE STUDIES

The University is looking for a dynamic, self-driven and result oriented professional to fill a vacancy for the position of a Dean in the School of Postgraduate Studies.

Qualifications and Skills Required: PhD in Leadership, Business Administration, or Education or Health Sciences. The candidate should have sufficient experience in teaching post graduate programs and should have been head of department or Faculty/School Dean for a minimum of three years. The candidate should be willing and able to work with students and faculty from various cultures and ethnic backgrounds in an international setting; a team player, have a vibrant personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in regular standing.

Qualifications Preferred: Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Leadership.

Required Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years teaching at the postgraduate level and at least 3 years of experience in academic administration such as a HoD or Dean of a Faculty or School. In addition, the candidate should show evidence of published research and supervision of theses and dissertations at the Master's or Doctoral level.

Duties and Responsibilities: The Dean reports directly to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Administration. The Dean provides administrative oversight for all aspects of academic activities within the School, student enrolment, running academic programs within the framework of academic policy, research support and guidance, implementing strategic planning, day to day fiscal management of the department, implementing the University’s vision.The Dean will implement or initiate policies for the School for growth and quality, either on their own or as directed by appropriate institutional authority, with due consideration for the prerogatives of the accreditation bodies, educational policy and faculty. The Dean also has primary responsibilities for external initiatives that include community outreach and development in consultation with the Deputy Vice-chancellor for Academic Administration.

General Responsibilities
• Provides leadership in all academic matters of the School including academic degree programs as well as recruiting, retaining, and graduating students.
• Direct the programs that the school may offer and lead in the development of new programs as needed.
• Teach some courses in one of the departments in the School of Postgraduate Studies.
• Supervise the Postgraduate Studies operation in the AUA External Instructional locations.
• Oversees the personnel of the School including hiring of and caring for faculty and staff, preparing annual evaluations, and supporting professional development opportunities.
• Has a deep commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity in its broadest terms across all sectors of the School, including, but not limited to curriculum, programming, and representations of staff and faculty, to name a few, and effectively represent the school’s best interest internally and externally.
• Works collaboratively and collegially with faculty and administration to advance the school’s mission of excellence in research, teaching, and service to the society.
• Represents the School of Postgraduate Studies on the Management Board of the University and other academic administrative committees.
• Provides strategic direction and oversight for an annual operating budget of the School of Postgraduate Studies.

Qualifications and Skills Required
1. Bachelor’s Degree is essential but a Master's degree is preferred. Course work related to Education, Management, Public Administration, Data Analytics, or related field preferred.
2. Experience with an international, or culturally diverse, student body.
3. Experience in an educational environment. Experience with university/ post-secondary student records, admissions, registration, confidentiality, and records management requirements, and policies.
4. Understanding of technology applications related to records and data management processes. Applications relating to university management information system experience are highly preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities
The tasks and responsibilities of the Assistant Registrar will comprise but are not limited to:

• Entering up-to-date list of degrees, emphases, and their requirements, as well as courses and their prerequisites in the UMIS system.
• Organize and administer records, progression, and graduation eligibility of all students within the school’s systems.
• Verifying the accuracy of student information during registration each semester/session.
• Preparation and sending of verified charges and income list to the student finance office after registration.
• Reconciling discrepancies between student charges in the data and student finance offices.
• Assisting students in correcting errors in their records and other relevant issues.
• Keeping record of students graduating each year according to their discipline, country of origin, gender, marital status, age and religion.
• Maintaining an accurate record of all the students who have graduated from the University right from the first graduation up to date.
• Managing data including accurate records of students of entry/exit information in the strong room.
• Managing daily office email traffic of student/faculty inquiries and improving services to students.
• Ensuring that students are able to register in time by providing their registration material and facilitating the process.
• Provide back-up for records and registration services, including grades.
• Compile quarterly statistical reports and report on trends.
• Processing transcript requests of students and graduates.
• Prepare prospective lists of graduands and compile their evaluation records.
• Check student records against graduation requirements.

1. The Job: Duties and Responsibilities
The Chief Accountant of AUA has the following duties and responsibilities:
1.1 Assist the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Financial Administration (DVCF) in running the Finance department.
1.2 Supervises the Senior Accountant and other accountanting staff.
1.3 Assists the DVCF in the preparation of budgets and is also responsible for budgetary control.
1.4 Ensures the maintainance of accurate accounting records.
1.5 Prepares regular financial reports
1.6 Is responsible for preparation for audits and ensures standard audit opinions
1.7 Is resposible for payroll preparation
1.8 Accounts for fixed assets and is responsible for mainataining an accurate fixed assets register
1.9 Ensures tax compliance in all relevant apsects.
1.10 Ensures that bank and inter-organisational reconciliations are prepared regularly.

2. The Individual:
The Adventist Univeristy of Africa is therefore looking for an individual with the qualifications, experience, skills and characteristics listed below.

2.1 Qualifications
2.1.1 Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a professional qualification like ACCA or CPA is required.
2.1.2 A Masters’ degree or higher will be an added advantage.

2.2 Experience
2.2.1 Aminimum of five (5) years in a senior position in an Accounting department.
2.2.2 Experience in the preparing financial statements and presentation of the same.
2.2.3 Experience in the analysis of financial data and preparation of schedules and graphs for financial report presentation
2.2.4 Experience in using accounting software is required. Experience specifically with Sunplus is a really an added advantage.
2.2.5 Experience in working in the Accounts department of an institution of higher learning is an added advantage.
2.2.6 Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and practices.
2.2.7 Knowledge of generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS).
2.2.8 Experience in using the Seventh-day Adventist Accounting Manual.
2.2.9 Knowledge of SDA Financial Policies.
