FACULTY POSITION IN SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY OR HISTORICAL-THEOLOGICAL STUDIES

Adventist University of Africa (AUA), a Chartered University of Seventh-day Adventists (SDA) Church based in Nairobi, Kenya, was established by the General Conference of SDA to provide post-graduate education in Theology, Business, Public Health, Applied Computer Science, and other fields. The University seeks to deliver balanced and dynamic post-graduate education in a Christian context to prepare graduates to provide competent leadership and service based on integrity, respect, and love for the Church and society.

The Faculty of the Theological Seminary at AUA conducts research in Biblical Studies, Church History, Systematic Theology, Missiology, and Practical/Applied Theology. The successful candidate is expected to teach and oversee all study programs from Master's to doctoral (DMin and PhD) levels.

The University is looking to fill a vacancy for the position of a lecturer in the Theological Seminary to teach and direct graduate studies and research in Systematic Theology or Historical Theological Studies.

Qualifications and Skills Required: Earned Doctoral degree in Systematic Theology/Historical-Theological Studies and qualified to teach at the graduate level and conduct and direct research in Theological studies. Willing and able to work with students and faculty from various cultures and ethnic backgrounds in an international setting; Have a vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ and be a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in regular standing.

Qualifications Preferred:  Research qualifications at the doctoral level (PhD or the equivalent) in Systematic theology. Documented pedagogical skills/teaching competence related to systematic theology. Articulate in English (oral and written communication skills).

A specialization in Systematic Theology involves the interpretation of the Christian faith and worldview from a contemporary perspective, paying attention to the distinctiveness, relevance, and normativity of the Christian faith and tradition. It includes the ability to conduct constructive academic analyses of how the Christian faith and worldview may be made relevant within the contemporary epistemic universe in the face of current cultural and social challenges. The candidate is required to master interdisciplinary work in theory as well as method.

Active participation in international research networks and good cooperative skills are vital. It is expected that the successful candidates will contribute to the further development of the faculty's research profile and establish new research projects. Experience in applying for external research funding is desirable. Applicants should be able to document the development of teaching provisions and study environments.

Required Work Experience: Be an ordained minister of the gospel and have a minimum of 5 years of ministerial experience. A holder of ministerial credentials of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Loyal to the Seventh-day Adventist Church's message and mission, evidenced by membership and active involvement in a local church. Preferably a minimum of six (6) years of full-time teaching experience, three of which should be at the graduate level. In addition, show evidence of published research and Supervision of thesis and dissertation at the Masters or Doctoral level.

Duties and Responsibilities: Teach systematic theology, philosophy of Religion, historical-theological studies, Adventist studies, and Cognate courses. Advise Master's thesis and doctoral dissertations as would be assigned. Serve in thesis and dissertation committees of the Theological Seminary as would be appointed. Engage in research and community service in a professionally stimulating environment. Perform any assigned relevant responsibilities by the University.

FACULTY POSITION IN LEADERSHIP

The Adventist University of Africa (AUA), a Chartered University of Seventh-day Adventists (SDA) Church based in Nairobi, Kenya, was established by the General Conference of SDA to provide post-graduate education to prepare Leaders for the Church and Society on the Continent of Africa and beyond. The University through the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPS), currently, offers the following programs: Leadership, Business Administration, Public Health, and Applied Computer Science. The University seeks to deliver balanced and dynamic post-graduate education in a Christian context to prepare graduates to provide competent leadership and service based on integrity, respect, and love for church and society.

The institution is looking for a lecturer who will teach in the leadership programs (Master's and PhD) in the Department of Social Sciences of the School of Postgraduate Studies.

The successful candidate is expected to teach and supervise theses and doctoral dissertations.

Relevant Qualifications and Skills Required:
The candidate must hold a PhD in Leadership or any other related qualifications as an Associate Professor or Full Professor rank. He/she must have a proven track record in research and publications, willing and able to work with students and faculty from a variety of cultures, and ethnic backgrounds within an international setting. Active participation in international research networks will be an advantage.

Required Work Experience:
The applicant should have five years of teaching experience at the postgraduate (Masters & PhD) level in relevant areas and have published over ten articles in a refereed journal. Publications of university-level textbooks and book chapters will be added advantage.
He/she must have supervised more than four postgraduate students.

Duties and Responsibilities:
As a postgraduate level lecturer, the candidate will be expected to:
• Teach courses in the area of Leadership as per the teaching load policy;
• Supervise students' research activities at Masters’ and PhD levels;
• Undertake publishable individual and collaborative research projects in peer-reviewed journals and actively contribute to the institution's research profile,
• Develop research proposals for external funding,
• Carry out administrative tasks related to teaching and departmental activities,
• Contribute to professional conferences and seminars in his/her field of expertise,
• Participate in student mentoring activities through the integration of faith and learning,
• Participate and contribute to the spiritual life of the campus as per the spiritual master plan.

1. The Job: Duties and Responsibilities

The Cafeteria Manager of AUA has the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. To oversee the operation of the AUA cafeteria
  2. To prepare monthly reports and submit them to the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Financial Administration regularly.
  3. To support and uphold the philosophy of Adventist education and the mission of the University.
  4. To ensure that cafeteria operations are in compliance with all food safety and sanitation regulations.
  5. Responsible for meal planning and ensuring that the menu provides a balanced diet in harmony with Adventist standards.
  6. To supervise and mentor cafeteria staff and also be responsible for scheduling the staff working hours.
  7. To ensure that the Cafeteria operates at a surplus and meets set profitability targets.
  8. To ensure that kitchen equipment is kept in good working condition.
  9. To maintain accurate records of food inventory, equipment, supplies, utensils etc and submit timely and cost-effective orders as needed.
  10. To ensure high standards of customer care and time management.

Qualifications and Skills Required

Academic:  Must have a Master’s Degree in the field of Communication or Business or Theology with a network of connections in the church sector.

Religion:  Must be a practising member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and be fully supportive of the ideals and objectives of the Church and the University.

Experience: Have at least five years of relevant experience in any two or more of the following areas: public relations, marketing and promotion, church leadership, event organization and project management.

Duties and Responsibilities

The tasks and responsibilities of the Marketing, PR and Alumni Affairs Director will comprise but are not limited to:

MARKETING

  1. Develop, update and implement a marketing strategy for the University in consultation with the Marketing Committee.
  2. Organize AUA promotion at camp meetings individually or using AUA staff and make presentations at the camp meetings.
  3. Visit the Workers' meeting of Conferences and Ministerial Association meetings of various unions to promote the University.
  4. Promote the University widely within the Church sector as well as within Kenya for SPS programs.
  5. Develop and implement an advertisement campaign.
  6. Oversee the design of attractive promotional materials and brochures for the University.
  7. Plan, allocate work, advise and supervise the functions of the Asst. Director of Marketing, PR and Alumni
  8. Call for meetings of the Marketing and PR Committee and make quarterly or annual plans, implement and review.
  9. Facilitate meetings between Finance, Admissions, Academic and Marketing personnel to ensure smooth flow of enrolment processes.
  10. Prepare enrolment information and trends in an agreed format and present them to the Enrolment Committee and come up with a marketing strategy.

COMMUNICATION AND PR

  1. Develop strategies to communicate with different stakeholders such as sponsors, prospective students, ECD, SID, WAD constituencies, the general public and internal members of the organizations.
  2. Organize ‘publicity and PR’ campaigns for the University to place the University continually in the market with the support of the Asst. Director, Marketing and PR.
  3. Write targeted articles about activities that happen at AUA for publishing in various church magazines.
  4. Researching, writing and promotional information to targeted audiences in the Church and outside.
  5. Receive selected, high-profile University guests and ensure their comfort while on campus.
  6. Invite one prominent person to the Campus or any of the University events.

ALUMNI

  1. Identify and cultivate friendships with alumni and work with them throughout the year to promote the University.
  2. Develop knowledge of alumni and systematically approach them and mobilize to support enrolment efforts of the Marketing department and the University.
  3. Organize alumni chapters and ensure these are functional in at least five cities in Africa and international chapters where possible.
  4. Organize the alumni association gathering which takes place throughout the year in different parts of the continent.

ADMINISTRATION

  1. Regularly conduct the PR and Marketing committees that fall under this position.
  2. Manage the operations of the department within the budgetary provision.
  3. Any other job as assigned by the immediate supervisor that is in line with the expertise of the employee.
